That Smile!

2008-10-15

They say a smile only takes a moment but its memory lasts forever.

This was probably my favorite picture from this session and I’ll tell you all why. See that great smile and if you look, you’ll see his dog is even giving me a smile. You guys are great – thanks for giving me the chance to meet you, your mom, your dog and to take your pictures!

I’m always trying to pull out that “real” smile. For some people it comes easy and others it’s very difficult. For me to capture a real smile on my subject is always so gratifying. Sure I like some serious faces for some types of portraits but a smile is like some kind of reward. You know the old saying, “a smile makes the world go round”. If you’ve got a nice smile, show it off!

Despite not really being thrilled to have his picture taken, this smile was great!

Of course, I love this picture too….(and many more which I’ll have to post more of later for the readers).

Discovered Sign

While driving around Nessel Township the other day I discovered this sign. I’ll definitely have to stop back at this spot. You just know there are great pictures in there that I’ll have to include in the project.

Stauffer Lake

2008-10-08

Just wanted to share more of my Nessel Township project that I started in August.

On this particular morning the mist was rising off this little lake called Stauffer Lake. It’s located in the south-west corner of the Township. I honestly don’t think a picture does this lake justice but I had to try anyway.

Nature Prepares to Say Goodnight

2008-10-06

As my grandmother use to say, fall is the season when nature prepares to say goodnight before she goes to sleep for the winter. At least, I think she said it that way.

While as the nights become longer and the days become shorter it does trigger those leaves to change their colors and though they’re not sleeping yet we know that soon those leaves will fall and the trees will go into their winter slumber.

So before they sleep, I say, lets enjoy those colors while we still can.

Morning Frost

2008-10-04

The visual impact of fall is phenomenal! Sure it gets a little colder with the impending season change but it’s this time of year that to me is a photographer’s dream. You have the beauty of the changing colors but you also have frost in the morning, which creates beauty in unimaginable ways. You also get to see more fog and mist rising up from rivers and lakes as the temperatures differ from the ground to the atmosphere above. You treasure the light and warmth more as the days get shorter. But you don’t have to wait as long between sunrise and sunset. I love that the sunrises later as I hate getting up early in the morning. Visually it’s a combination of summer and winter but with added perks and a big punch of beauty. As I’ve said before, fall is my favorite season.
